Can you tell us about your role at the company and outline your key responsibilities?

As the COO, or Chief Operating Officer, my role encompasses a multifaceted range of responsibilities that are pivotal to our company’s success. In essence, I act as the driving force behind the scenes, overseeing the business on behalf of our owner. This entails a variety of crucial tasks, including providing leadership and guidance to our talented team of managers, strategically charting the course for the company’s growth, making informed decisions concerning our daily operations, and bearing the weight of responsibility for ensuring our financial prosperity. It’s a dynamic role that demands a comprehensive approach to maintaining our operational excellence and driving our company toward continued success.

Could you share your journey to your current position and how long you’ve been in this role?

My journey to my current role as Chief Operating Officer has been fulfilling and transformative. I’ve been in this specific position for almost 2 years, but my history with the company dates to 2014. It all began with my role as a helpdesk technician, where I had the opportunity to lay the foundation of my career within the company. Over time, I gradually transitioned into more senior roles, which provided me with invaluable insights and experiences. This journey was guided by my dedication to personal and professional growth, and it ultimately led me to the role I now hold, where I can make a meaningful impact on our company’s success.

What does a typical day in your role look like?

A typical day in my role as Chief Operating Officer is a dynamic and multifaceted one. It often involves a series of crucial meetings with my direct reports, where we delve into the current state of our client projects and our internal operations. These discussions allow me to stay well-informed about the progress and challenges we face, enabling me to make informed decisions. Additionally, I find myself frequently advising my managers as needed, drawing upon my experience and expertise to guide them in overcoming obstacles and ensuring that our daily operations run smoothly and efficiently. This balance of strategic oversight and hands-on support keeps me engaged and helps drive the success of our organization.

What aspects of your work at Kerkhoff Technologies do you find most enjoyable?

What I find most enjoyable about my role at Kerkhoff Technologies is the perpetual presence of fresh challenges to embrace. Our company thrives on innovation and growth, and these ever-evolving challenges keep me motivated and engaged. Additionally, our relatively small size as a business allows us to maintain an agile and adaptable approach. The collaborative synergy among our leadership team enables us to swiftly pivot and adjust our strategies in response to the ever-changing demands of our industry. This dynamic and flexible work environment is something I truly relish as it keeps me continuously inspired and driven to help our company thrive.

Can you share your top tech tip, something you personally use, with our audience? It could be a favorite tool, a workflow, or any tech-related advice.

I’ve personally integrated it into my daily routine with great success. The Stream Deck allows me to program various functions, such as seamlessly switching between screens, toggling my microphone and camera, initiating connections, running timers, and even displaying time in different time zones, among many other tasks. It’s a game-changer in terms of streamlining your workflow and boosting efficiency, making it an invaluable addition to any tech-savvy toolkit.

How do you like to relax and unwind after a long day at work?

After a demanding day at the office, my favorite way to unwind is to kick back and enjoy some quality leisure time. I often start by diving into a bit of video gaming with my friends, which is not only enjoyable but also a great way to unwind. Then, I transition into family time, as I take the responsibility of putting my daughter to bed. Once she’s settled, I treasure those moments on the couch, where my wife and I catch up on our favorite TV shows. It’s a perfect blend of socializing, family bonding, and entertainment that helps me recharge and prepare for the next day.

Are there any hobbies or personal interests you’re passionate about outside of work?

Absolutely, I have a couple of hobbies that I’m deeply passionate about. First and foremost, I’m an avid gamer, and I particularly enjoy immersing myself in the world of RPGs like Fallout and Starfield. It’s a fantastic way to unwind and explore new virtual realms. Additionally, I have a keen interest in photography, though I regret not having as much time for it as I used to. Capturing moments and scenes through the lens has always been a source of joy and creativity for me. While work keeps me busy, I relish the opportunities to indulge in these hobbies whenever I can.

Have there been any books, movies, or TV shows that you’ve found particularly captivating lately?

Indeed, I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing some great entertainment lately. I recently had the opportunity to watch “Oppenheimer” in the full IMAX format at a local theater, and it was a visually stunning and thought-provoking cinematic experience. On the TV front, I just wrapped up the third season of “Only Murders in the Building,” a series I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s always refreshing to find time for quality storytelling and engaging content amidst a busy schedule.

If you had the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world without constraints like time, money, and childcare, where would you choose to go, and what draws you to that destination?

Without a doubt, my dream destination would be Southeast Asia. More specifically, I’d love to explore the enchanting countries of Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The allure of this region lies in its rich cultural tapestry, stunning landscapes, and the chance to immerse myself in the unique blend of history and natural beauty that these countries offer. The freedom to embark on such an adventure, unburdened by practical constraints, would be an incredible opportunity to delve into the vibrant and diverse tapestry of Southeast Asia.

When it comes to cuisine or dining out, do you have a favorite type of cuisine or restaurant? And is there a particular dish that you can never resist ordering?

Sushi holds a special place in my heart as my favorite cuisine. The combination of fresh, delicate flavors and meticulous preparation has an irresistible allure. Among the many delicious options at a sushi restaurant, I can never resist ordering Chicken Karaage. The crispy, flavorful goodness of this dish is something I find truly delightful, making it a must-try whenever I’m dining at a sushi restaurant.

Do you have any pets? If so, we’d love to hear about them!

Indeed, I share my home with three furry companions, all of them being cats. While I cherish their presence and the unique personalities each one brings, I’ll admit that at times, it can feel like one cat too many! They add a lot of liveliness and character to our household, but they also keep me on my toes with their playful antics and occasional mischief.

What’s your preferred music playlist or artist to get energized and motivated before a busy day?

When I’m seeking an energizing musical boost to kickstart my day, I turn to the powerful sounds of rock. Two of my go-to bands for that extra dose of motivation are Tool and Rammstein. Their electrifying tunes never fail to get me in the zone. On the flip side, for those moments when I need to unwind and chill out, Pink Floyd’s music is my trusted companion. Their melodies offer a soothing contrast to the high-octane energy of my rock favorites.
